1-on-1 training is our most focused offering: a private session with a Swysh Den coach, built entirely around one player. There is no shared court time and no generic drill list. Your coach starts from where your game actually is, whether that means cleaning up shooting mechanics, tightening ball handling, adding footwork and positional IQ, or getting game-ready after time off or an injury. Sessions run on our indoor courts using the same tools available to every member, including Dr. Dish shooting machines and dedicated dribbling stations, so the reps carry over directly to game speed.
Players training toward tryouts, a club roster spot, or a college look use 1-on-1 time to sharpen specific weaknesses under direct coach supervision. Others use it simply to get more individual attention than a group clinic allows. Either way, you are working with a coach who has played or coached at a level most local gyms cannot offer.
A nine-season NBA veteran who played for the Bulls, 76ers, Jazz, Wizards, Bucks, and Trail Blazers before moving into player development, including a stretch with the New Orleans Pelicans and time on staff with the Phoenix Suns. Ruffin trains with an NBA-grade emphasis on defense, physicality, and the small habits that show up in real games.
Founder of TheAcademyPHX, a well-known Valley development program built on advanced skill work and structured competition. JR sets the standards for Swysh Den's competitive track and trains players toward being fundamentally sound, mentally tough, and team-first.
A 6'4" guard/forward who played college basketball at Lewis-Clark State College after a standout run at Bellevue College, including a 40-point tournament performance. Kai brings a versatile-wing skill set and real perimeter-shooting experience to every session he runs.
More than a decade in basketball as both player and staff. Mathias managed the team at Arizona State University, assisting with NBA Draft prep, then worked as an Assistant Regional Director for a national AAU circuit before co-founding a Phoenix post-grad program. He continues training NBA and NCAA Division 1 players in the offseason.
Every trainer on staff has played or coached at a high level, from the NBA to Division 1 programs to elite AAU circuits.
Train with Dr. Dish shooting machines, dedicated dribbling stations, and the Interactive Wall, the same equipment used across every membership tier.
Beyond skill work, Swysh Den's staff covers sports performance and mental performance coaching so training addresses the whole athlete.
Swysh Den is also an ESA-approved vendor for basketball tutoring in Arizona, which can make 1-on-1 training eligible for families using an Empowerment Scholarship Account.
